NYULÁSZÓ – 1ST GROWTH TOKAJI ASZÚ 6 PUTTONYOS 2000

In 2000 we did not have much rainfall since the beginning of January, and the total air temperature indicators showed relatively high figures. From the beginning of August to the middle of September we had no rain at all, and it was incredibly hot each day. These weather conditions affected the development of grapes and aszú berries a lot. Grapes got fully ripe a month earlier than usual. The sugar content of berries got really high, and the level of acidity fell below the figures of earlier vintages. Botrytis could not affect the grapes without much rainfall and with low humidity, therefore this year the berries got shrivelled without being affected with real botrytis. It was not unusual this year to meet aszú berries with more than 70% of sugar content.

Other Vintages

Because of the high temperatures, the grape skins got very thick and hard, so maceration went on really slowly as opposed to previous years. However, beautiful aromas developed in the berries. Sugar content of the wines was extremely high with no means at all, but the wines were not so full-bodied as usual.
“Amber colour with a golden touch. Well-developed nose of raspberry and a bit of spices combined to a very charming character. A broader style showing floral notes, raspberry and other red berries on the palate. Intense richness coupled with elegance. To be opened an hour before drinking.”
