GOLD LABEL TOKAJI ASZÚ 6 PUTTONYOS 2011

Winter was quite mild with low rainfall and budding started by the 10th April. Blossoming and berry setting were very good but in July there was nearly as much rain as during the preceding six months combined. The grapes looked excellent with ideal sugar levels at the end of August. The vintage looked perfect and almost identical to 2003. Sadly, where we had rain in the ripening season in 2003 (resulting in Botrytis) in 2011 we had none. We were able to harvest only a tiny amount of aszú berries of sufficient quality. Only 6 Puttonyos was made and even then in tiny quantities. 2011 was a perfect example of the incredible difficulty of producing Aszú wines. The individually picked Aszú berries were macerated in the press with dry base wine and aged in used Hungarian oak barrels until bottling in 2014.

A beautiful golden wine with plenty of dried fruits, apricot jam, vanilla and medlar. Extremely rich nose. Spicy vanilla and apricot. Very fine, elegant acidity provides perfect balance to the high sugar. An almost eternal finish.
