Produced from 100% Furmint the signature grape of the Tokaj region, carefully selected from our First Growth Szent Tamás vineyard. This wine has a lovely fresh fruity and mineral character on the nose and palate, and thanks to the 8 months aging in new oak barrel it is perfectly structured and balanced with well integrated Hungarian oak aromas.
SZENT TAMÁS FURMINT DRY 2012
Winter was quite cold especially at the end of January and beginning of February. It did not cause any damage because temperature never declined to that level for a long time but sometimes exceeded as low as (-15)-(-17) °C for a few hours.
There was serious draught at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately rainfall tripled from the end of May to the end of July. We had plenty of rain during blossoming period therefore berry setting was far not perfect. So split of the rainfall was horrible.
June and July were very hot, which as it was coupled with plenty of rain, required serious attention by the vineyard managers regarding applying careful spraying program.
Hot weather continued in August but it was coupled with no rain or hardly any. September started with very promising weather regarding aszu berry expectations. However in the second half of the month and in October the rain was followed by warm nights and dead calm. It brought plenty of midges into vineyards therefore berries started developing botrytis turned heavy vinegar instead of shrivelling by botrytis already in vineyards.
Because the above described feature there was no aszu wine produced but we could make some delicious dry wines and rich late harvest with careful selection.
