MÉZES MÁLY – 1ST GROWTH TOKAJI ASZÚ 6 PUTTONYOS 1999

It is clear that 1999 is a great Aszú year. The Royal Tokaji Wine Company believe that it is on a par with the famous 1993 vintage, the first outstanding year for Tokaji after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Whereas the 1993 vintage had impressive concentration and structured richness, the hallmark of the 1999 vintage is one of unbelievable acidity wrapped in perfectly balanced fruit. The Royal Tokaji Wine Company picked the majority of their Aszú berries in perfect weather conditions during late September and early October. The grapes from the great First Growth Mézes Mály were harvested in late October. The Furmint and Hárslevelı aszús are elegant with good orange peel character which denotes the presence of Botrytis. These are fine, elegant wines, beautifully balanced with good acidity.

Peppermint, quince, peach, honey in a wonderful structure on the nose. Honey, peach, floral with a great balance on the palate. What a nice acidity, how fresh! It is a full-bodied wine, ethereal texture. Very long lasting quince aftertaste. Nothing compares.
