Betsek is the largest and one of the most beautiful vineyards of Mád with a stony, heavy black clay soil. The vineyard gives a mineral and black pepper character to its wines along with hints of peach and honey. The fruty and honey-like nose with the hints of black pepper and mint, providing an outstanding freshness to the Betsek aszu 2007. The palate is vibrant with grapefruit, orange zest and black pepper and it provides an extremely long finish.
BETSEK – 1ST GROWTH TOKAJI ASZÚ 6 PUTTONYOS 2007
This year held many challenges but we are delighted by our 2007 Single Vineyard Aszú wines. They are rich and beautifully balanced and represent a pinnacle amongst recent vintages. The winter was mild but very dry with no frost to speak of. Sometimes this can encourage disease in the vineyard but thanks to our vineyard management the vines remained healthy. Spring was dry and warm until the end of May when the heavens opened. This led us to expect a long, wet and cold blossoming in June as this had been the pattern of the previous three years. Nature, ever fickle however, surprised us and we enjoyed a hot and dry summer with hardly any rain at all in August.
