THE FIRST DECADE SZT.TAMÁS 1991

In truly exceptional years Royal Tokaji selects the finest berries from its finest vineyards and carefully produces a few barrels of Single Vineyard Aszú. Szt. Tamás is a celebrated First Growth vineyard sloping southwest and overlooking the Royal Tokaji winery in Mád. The soil is rich, red, clay interspersed with indigo and purple volcanic rocks on and below the surface. During the vintage, vine growth was vigorous, with warm weather during the flowering and grape set. The Furmint bunches developed quickly. Summer was hot with some rain to swell the grapes. The warm humid autumn and long Indian summer resulted in good quality aszú berries being picked up to mid-October. Sugar levels were balanced with good acidity.
